CPU not folding
#1
Ok, system specs as followed:

CPU: Ryzen 1800x
GPU: GTX 1080 SLI
RAM: 32GB

The CPU description defaults to "cpu: 14", I'm guessing that it's allocating two threads for the GPUs and the 14 for folding on its own?

But status is forever "Ready", while the GPUs are running fine. Anything I can do to make it fold on the CPU?

I assume you have two GPUs, yes? If so, then that's why it shows CPU: 14. One thread per GPU, and the rest for the CPU.

As for your issue, go to your log, and post the first 100 or so lines into [code] tags here.

Yeah two GTX 1080s. 14 threads allocated for the CPU itself, two for the 2 GPUs.

And if it helps, I can confirm that my laptop: i7 6700HQ + 32GB RAM + GTX 1070 is also only folding on the GPU, CPU stuck on ready.

Log (don't know how many lines this is sorry):

Hmm. Can't find anything wrong in your log. Will need more info. If you go back to your log, select the Slot checkbox just above your log, and select 00, so we can filter out the GPU entries. Post the entire log.

EDIT: Wait, was too busy looking for CPU issues, and didn't notice something else. How many GPUs do you have in total? Your log shows you have 4, and that two of them are unsupported.

Try something for me.  Go in and delete the cpu slot.  Add a new cpu slot, but instead of leaving it set to -1 (auto), set it to 12 manually.  Let me know if it starts folding. Should net you roughly 100kPPD  Twilightsmile

Ok guys thanks, I've deleted the entire list of slots, and then I reconfigured them, all the -1 for auto. CPU was set to 14 threads auto but it was on ready still. I changed it to 12, still nothing. I then split the CPU up to two so it's two slots instead of 1, 8 threads each, net 16. That worked...

So now I've got the CPU on 100% usage and the GPUs run at around 90%. Estimate PPD is at around 1,200,000 to 1,500,000. Pretty solid :D. My laptop going at around 550k.

Hopefully this issue gets resolved soon? Idk, just a bit strange XP. Thanks guys :)

Strange, it should work fine with lots of cores. I had a computer system running 64 cores across 4 processors no problem for a few years. There are other options you can force the CPU slot with... Also should help if you are using linux.

Also, donno if anybody else said, but welcome to the forums.

Also... lol... decided to ditch TechPowerUp in favor of the winning team thats about to pass them?  Rainbowwild

Yeah it's been a mystery, but at least I got it to work! :D Now onto connecting clients that are on the same network... oh well.

Also, thanks for welcoming me to the forums, no one has said that yet :).

I actually chose the username Phoenix because I always used something like it. I think what had happened is that people from a year back were folding for TechPowerUp but didn't set a passkey, so I kinda took the username (because this name has been inactive for a year) without knowing (I just got started). I set a passkey because it suggested it to me, and then I realized that I already had points! I figured that the system allowed multiple people to use a single username without a password, so... that's how I ended up with them XP.

TLDR; I committed robbery without knowing lol. At least they were inactive for a year.

But! I'm folding at around 1.8 million PPD so I'll do my best to help Brony@home. Plus I like the show and community so how could I not  Twilightblush

Oh yeah, I was also wondering how often the banners get updated. I'm at 780k (at the point of this post) for Brony@home, but my User Points says 99k for Brony@home. Is it per month, week, or day? Thanks :D

The points for the banners are pulled from http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/t...=&t=212997 which are updated every 3 hours, even though folding@home updates every hour. The average is done over 7 days, so you have a ways to go before everything levels out.

What brings you to folding@home and the brony@home team?

Ah, thanks for explaining that to me, makes sense.

I thought that I had some spare computer power and that I could use it for something. Not interested in Bitcoin mining because it isn't that profitable anyways and I have no interest in messing with that. And I remembered that folding@home was a thing, and I thought that this is a great way to contribute. And because I'm a brony myself, I automatically joined this team :)

I also like to push my hardware, overclock, etc. Stability test the system and other stuff. So it fits hand in hand with folding@home, so it was a no brainer to use my computer to help medical research.

Just be careful.  Folding is a dangerous addiction.  It starts off with an old video card from ebay, and before you know it, you're working three jobs and selling your home to feed the addiction  Pinkiecrazy

Haha thanks for the warning. But my computer system is already ~$5600 with all the peripherals added in, two $3.3k laptops, and I'm also addicted to making sound systems so that's $1.5k...

Already addicted to computer hardware, and I'm sure I won't stop anytime soon haha. Someday I'll probably run like 8 GPUs lol. Someday.
