Ad ideas needed for folding@home!
#1
I am gearing up for a very very large folding@home competition at the end of 2017 beginning of 2018. There may even be other teams involved. Other teams in the top 10.

We must Crush them.

To properly crush competition, we must get a lot more involved, and thus we need a bunch more artwork.
A good place to start getting ideas

I would like a few different ads and a poster... honestly I'm not sure exactly how they should look, so I'm asking all of you to really help out with promotional art ideas.

Your team depends on you.

I'll be happy to add in my 1080 for a few days a week. Can't do too much as electricity seems to be weirdly expensive lately, though.
As for other ideas, I don't think we can crush the top 10 teams. There is a reason they are in the top ten. Both EVGA and OCP have over 18000 members each, and Curecoin literally pays people to fold for them.

The ultimate idea is to crush other teams in the love of friendship... the idea of this thread is to get promotion/art ideas.

Ah. I see Rainbowwild I'll spread the word around the small circle of people I know that we may need their computation power in the mean time.

Perhaps contacting conventions and asking them to do a favor and advertise folding@home, or maybe more specifically brony@home? It's basically charity, and medical research. I'm sure they'll at least consider it, no harm done. Just a few posters, maybe we can collectively pay for cards to be printed out and spread around during con? Or we could just ask the people here who are going to those cons to print out a bunch of cards and put them around the con.

Idk, just an idea.

I have already been to a convention and handed out lots of these... https://derpibooru.org/726876 but I cant go to all of them. Printed 1,000 of those posters for babscon and handed them out; still have some left. Also, this gets rather expensive for me. Maybe I'll set up a table at the convention in dallas texas, which is closest to me (nightmare nights).

This thread is to get ideas for a new poster to be made, as well as any other artwork ideas to help promote the groupl

I can't print large posters, but if you need anything printed up to 8.5x14, I can get it done for free if you let me know what paper stock you want.

So, you're looking for ideas?

One of the apps I was developing for my VR laboratory involved visualizing molecules for chemists from my university, which meant converting .pdb files (protein databank format) into formats that could be displayed in the Unity engine. While looking for tools that could help with that, I found some interesting things:

The chimera software - which can visualize proteins in various ways:
https://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/

Bioblender - a blender plugin which allows it to render images and animations of proteins.
http://www.bioblender.org/

And also some inspirational videos made with the above:
https://vimeo.com/44303696
http://www.scivis.it/videos/

So, this may serve simply as inspiration (after all F@H is not about making pretty animations, or even making visualizations for chemists), or we could use some 3D rendered proteins in promotional art. Or if we find anyone willing to go all out, a promotional animation is also possible, though that's a lot of work compared to just a single render which could be done in a day.
So... if you'd like some 3D rendered proteins, I could do it myself, but I'm not volunteering to do any animations :P

... well... maybe simple animations like the camera rotating around a protein. That's simple enough.
I haven't done rigged animation in maaaany years, so I don't think I'd remember how to add ponies to the animation and make them do things. With proteins. YEEEAH!

For the record, some screens from the work I did for my university:

1. Seeing if metaballs look right:

2. Playing with Chimera:

3. Various ways .pdb files can be imported to Blender:

PS.: While playing around doing research, I found that one of the features of Bioblender is displaying MLP for proteins.
If you don't believe, just look at the lower left in this video, or watch the first few minutes:
