[Worklog] Dedicated Mini BOINC & Folding Rig
#1
Hello Everypony.  While Master Hig is thinking BIG, I decided to go in the other direction and build a cute little Folding@Home powerhouse.  It also runs Rosetta@Home since I might as well get some use out of the CPU.  I watched many videos and reviews in search of a tiny mini ITX case that could support this build.  I eventually settled on the EVGA Hardon Hadron Mini ITX case.  It comes with a built-in 500w EVGA power supply, so there won't be one in the parts list.

Parts List:

Heart  EVGA Hadron Mini ITX Case
Heart  Asrock X99E-itx/AC
Heart  Intel Xeon e5 2658v3 12-Core CPU
Heart  Corair H100i Hydro v2 (doesn't fit)
Heart  Corsair H100i Hydro
Heart  256GB Samsung 950 PRO M.2 SSD
Heart  ZOTAC GTX 1070 Mini
Heart  Corsair AF120 Purple LED Fans
Heart  HyperX Fury 16GB DDR4 Kit

That's going to be a neat build! Please share photos when it's finished, I'm impressed that a twin 120mm radiator will fit in such a small case. The 1070 is a decent GPU for folding!

Yeah, I was gonna get the same 1070 you had, but then the other one came out.  I think they are cute little cards.  And they can match or even exceed a 980ti.  The original watercooler wouldn't fit due to the waterblock being too big for the mobo.  So it appears that the older H100i will fit.  Of course, I still need to find out how to shove it in the case.  For the record, the case is 12inX12in (300mmx300mm).  I have to fit the PSU, MoBo, GPU and a 240mm watercooler in there  Rainbowlaugh   It's going to be a tight fit no matter how I do it.   Twilightblush

The case in comparison to a 980ti  Rainbowwild For the record, I tried fitting it in, but I couldn't do it with the mobo installed.  Not to mention, it blocks the cables from the PSU under it.  So the mini 1070s are great  Twilightsmile

I got the new watercooler in the mail so I'll be trying that one tonight to see how it goes.  I have the stock cooler on temporarily.  I bought a tube of Arctic Silver thermal compound which should last for ever  Derpytongue2
